THE VAULT

The Vault is a dual-channel video installation by the Finnish-German artist duo Oval Office (Jaakko Pallasvuo and Mikko Gaestel).

Set in a dystopian future, the work depicts a sealed dome built as shelter against an uninhabitable outside world. Within it, human intimacy has been reduced to ritual — desire performed through choreographed sequences, everyday objects elevated to fetish, padded rooms the sole site of contact. Convenience has eliminated scarcity; what remains is the problem of boredom.

The two projections can be installed side by side or on adjacent walls of a corner, creating a spatial enclosure that mirrors the hermetic world the work describes.
First exhibited at Future Gallery, Berlin.
