ARRIVAL IN AREA DELTA
Arrival in Area Delta is a video installation made in collaboration with Nike Arnold, produced under a strict set of self-imposed rules: remain on a Berlin rooftop for 168 consecutive hours without leaving, without contact with the outside world, and with enough footage at the end to cut a film.
What was recorded over those seven days and nights — the construction of a makeshift shelter, the development of a daily routine, improvised actions and camera passes — became the raw material for a work that refuses to document the experience directly. Dialogue and sound were added entirely in post-production, deliberately artificial and distanced. The result is less a record than a chamber play: a minimal fiction about human presence, cohabitation, and the slow negotiation of shared space.
The installation can be presented as a single-screen work or as a dual-channel piece within a PVC cube structure (2.50 × 2.50 × 3.50m) that recreates the spatial confinement of the original situation.
Der Film Ankunft in Zone Delta ist das Resultat eines gemeinsamen Projekts mit Nike Arnold, bei dem wir sieben Tage und Nächte zu zweit auf einem Berliner Hausdach verbrachten. Zu den selbstauferlegten Regeln gehörte, das Dach über die gesamte Dauer des Versuchs nicht zu verlassen, keinen Kontakt zur Außenwelt aufzunehmen und am Ende genügend Videomaterial aufgenommen zu haben, um einen Film zu schneiden. Die dokumentierten Aktionen sind vor Ort entstanden und teilweise frei improvisiert, die Kamera wird abwechselnd bedient oder steht auf einem einem Stativ. Die endgültige Handlung entstand anschließend im Schnitt. Dialoge und Geräusche wurden erst in der Postproduktion hinzugefügt und wirken distanziert und künstlich. Der Film strebt nicht die Dokumentation der tatsächlichen Situation auf dem Dach an, sondern kreiert einen fiktionalen Raum, und beschäftigt sich als minimalistisches Kammerspiel mit der menschlichen Existenz.
